I'm looking to improve my knowledge of theory and the fretboard in general, and I ran across The Guitar Wheel (http://www.guitarwheel.com). It looks like it might be a handy reference tool. Has anyone here tried this out? Has anyone seen any reviews - good, bad, or ugly?

Absolutely looks like a great tool. Lots of quick info ready at a glance. Good idea. 8)

I will have to check out the demo and maybe order one later.

I'm watching the demo now and am thinking that if I were to order it then in a few months I will be saying "Best $20 I've ever spent".

I'm gettin' one! :D

If I remember correctly I was looking to get this as a quick reference but didn't like something about it. I think they only use sharps or something and cannot use flats for the appropriate keys 'cause of the way the wheel has to work. Check that out...I may be thinking of another product.

Yeah I was almost right...I didn't like this. Could be confusing.

Q. Why are some notes in the scales of Guitar Wheel™ misspelled.
A. Due to illustrative limitations, the Guitar Side speaks only in sharps (#) while the Piano Side speaks in flats (b). Also, the notes:B#, E#, Cb, and Fb are found only in the Enharmonic Equivalents section (see yellow grid).

Ah - but that's no biggie if you can think in terms of the synonymous nomenclature (Cb = B, B# = C, E# = F, etc.). Just slows you down for a minute, till you get used to it.

True but are you "getting use to" something that will hurt you in the long run.

Naw - knowing the multiple identities of a note - and when to use which context is a very good skill to have! You never know when your keyboard player will throw something at you that's all sharps or something... or you'll want to play a song, but only have the music written in a certain way.

Studio Session Musicians get a LOT of practice with this.

After awhile, you'll know it all by heart (both flats and the synonymous sharps) and won't need to think too much about it.

Guiarist511 - thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't noticed it. Not a deal breaker for me though, I'm OK with it. I think I'll go ahead and order one, it looks like it'd be a handy reference tool to have in the ol' guitar tool kit.

I got mine in the mail yesterday. I didn't really have a chance to do anything with it other then glance at it. I think I need to watch the instructional DVD to figure it all out. :(

I got my Guitar Wheel in the mail yesterday :bananarock: :bananarock: :jam1: :jam1: :shredder: :shredder:

It's going to take some getting used to :? I think they make the assumption that you already know something about theory, or that you will be using it with a teacher. No doubt about it though, it's a HUGE amount of information in a very small space. I hope to have it memorized before arthritis set's in :( :?: :zzzzz:

Mine should be here in the next day or two.

I also ordered the Fretboard Logic series that I've heard so many good things about. Unfortunately it looks like it's backordered since Amazon.com is telling me it'll be August 24th before I get it.
